Start with width, then edit by visual weight

A vanity can fit the opening and still feel wrong in the room. Look at the relationship between the countertop thickness, cabinet height, base, and empty space around the piece. A recessed toe kick gives the cabinet a different presence than open legs. A floating cabinet gives the floor more visible area, but it asks more of the wall and installer.

Our starting preference is a restrained cabinet face with one clear material idea. The exception is a bathroom that needs the vanity to carry more architectural detail because the surrounding surfaces are intentionally quiet.

Storage should be judged from the inside

Drawer count is a weak shortcut. Plumbing cutouts can divide the top drawer, and shallow drawers may be better for daily tools than tall bottles. Door cabinets tolerate plumbing more easily, but they often ask you to stack or bin what you store. Compare the interior layout with the way the bathroom is actually used.

Receive the cabinet before final rough-in

Plan from the specification drawing, then verify against the delivered vanity. Have the cabinet inspected on site before the plumber fixes the final rough-in locations. The installer should confirm drawer clearance, trap position, faucet requirements, wall condition, and every included component.
